About Us & Our Cottage

THE COTTAGE This property has a long and loving history. In 1928 my great aunt and uncle, Fred and Jessie Bennett bought the property, built their home and one small beach cottage. They named their business Sunrise Cottages. Every year after, my Uncle Fred built another cottage to a total of nine in all. He and my aunt rented for many decades. My parents, Harry and Peg Margeson took over as the next generation. Upon my dads death, my mom rented until 2005 when she became ill. With mixed emotions Sunrise Cottages closed its business after decades and generations of family visits. Literally grandparents brought their grandchildren to the cottage they stayed in as a child. My husband Sam and I decided to buy the property from my mom and in 2006 we moved into our beautiful home. My mom passed away on June 30, 2016 and had lived out her remaining 12 years in the house that had once been a cottage (my parents renovated one in 1991). We have taken her home, done some renovations and proudly and with love named it Sunrise Cottage. We have made a complete circle. For almost a century, many people enjoyed our beautiful spot on Mile Road in Wells. We are now sharing it again.
